Creativity Mentorship

What Is Creativity?

Creativity is the state of being that we experience when we are in alignment with the source of life.

As human beings we desire to be connected with the source of life, for when we feel one with life itself, the sense of separation dissolves and we experience joy. In creativity we experience a great intimacy with life, which allows joy & beauty to shine in our experience.

Creativity is how life expresses itself through us, and is a natural aspect of being alive. But so many of us conceive of creativity as a gift that some people have access to and others don’t. Many people don’t think of themselves as artists. But the truth is, we are all artists. We are all creating every day, knowingly or unknowingly.

The difference is that one who creates knowingly has honed the ability to listen and to pay attention… to sounds, perceptions, thoughts, and to the space in between perceptions, to the silence that underlies everything.

This can be difficult in our modern, noisy world full of distractions… but it is possible. Contrary to how it may appear in the modern world, being an artist is not about being recognized or about having fans and followers. Nor is being an artist about producing works of art. Rather, being an artist is about being deeply intimate with life in the present moment and living and acting from this place of oneness within our being.

Being an artist is not necessarily about being a painter, musician, writer, dancer, sculptor, business entrepreneur, etc., although creativity may be expressed in such ways. Creativity is also expressed in the unique ways that we relate with others, work, dress, speak, and move in the world.

Simply put, to be an artist is to listen. Through listening we connect deeply with life, which allows life to flow freely through us. And when we are connected with the source of life we cannot help but express beauty and uniqueness in the world – joyfully, naturally, & effortlessly.

About the Creativity Mentorship

§  Prior to the mentorship, you will have a complimentary 20 minute phone call with me so you can find out if this mentorship is a good fit for you.

§  The mentorship is 8 weeks in length and consists of 8 one-on-one online sessions with me that are each 45 minutes in length.

§ During our meetings I will guide you through meditations that facilitate the art of listening & paying attention within you. Through attentive listening you will connect with the silence of your deepest self, which underlies and permeates all of life.

§  I will ask you to choose a medium to explore the act of expression that arises from silence. For example – acrylic painting, songwriting, poetry, weaving tapestry out of recycled plastic… Your medium can be traditional or non-traditional… You may have one medium to focus on, or more than one medium.

§  We will explore what it means to be an artist in the absence of any medium, with a focus on listening and abiding in the source of creativity.

§  You will have the opportunity to express your thoughts, feelings, and questions about the creative process and to share your creativity in a safe and supportive setting.

§  We will explore topics that will assist you in allowing yourself to become a clear channel of creative expression. For example – contemplating the illusion of perfection, understanding unworthiness as a block to creativity, surrendering to the silence, the importance of slowing down and resting, trusting a greater intelligence that is beyond the mind.

a little about me…

Sujatha is an artist, musician, & writer who began to be enthralled with music at the young age of 6. She received a Bachelor of Music degree at a top tier music conservatory, which offered her an extensive education & wonderful training. However, the rigor of the training caused her to disconnect from her innate artist due to being in a high pressure environment permeated with false ideas of perfectionism. Thus she turned away from music, went back to school to study nursing and worked as an RN for many years. Over a period of several years she slowly untangled from creative blocks and erroneous notions of what it means to be an artist. As she began to immerse herself in the art of listening, the joy of creating eventually began to return to life. She is now expressing beauty in the world through music and writing. You can read her bio on the about page. Sujatha lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
